How to Prepare for Government Contract Tenders

Thinking of Tendering to Government? Start Here. Government contracts can be a game changer for business, but only if you understand the rules of the game.

Before you respond to a government procurement request:

  • Read the full contract conditions… not just the scope. Terms can change, even if you’ve done similar work before.
  • Check insurance, liability (and how yours is capped, if at all) WHS, and most importantly, data protection (especially personal information), many contractors don’t realise they must comply as if they’re a public sector agency.
  • Understand IP, confidentiality, and modern slavery requirements.
  • Don’t overdo your “departures” (requested changes to legal terms). They need to be clear, reasonable, and justifiable in the context of the contract you’re tendering for.

I’ve written a practical guide covering everything from liability to subcontracting, privacy to publicity and what happens if your business goes insolvent mid contract.
