Why Requesting a Government Tender Debrief Matters

Lost a government contract? You may still be entitled to a debrief… and it’s one of the most valuable parts of the process.

A proper debrief can reveal:

  • Where your submission failed to meet the assessment criteria
  • Capacity gaps or risks that stood out to the panel
  • Whether pricing was competitive
  • Red flags arising from your past performance, compliance history, or due diligence results
  • Weaknesses in systems, policies, or subcontractor management

Pro tip: A debrief won’t tell you who won or what the pros and cons of other contractors were, but it will tell you what you can do better next time.

And if you believe the process was flawed? You may have options to make a complaint, through internal government processes or under legislation (depending on the Government and the type of tender).
